About the Symposium

This years‘ Brazilian-German Frontiers of Science and Technology Symposium is dedicated to the theme „Climate Change and the Challenges to a Sustainable Development“ and covers the following cutting-edge research topics:

  • Biorefineries and Bioeconomy
  • Food Security
  • Green Energy
  • Health Care

An organizing committee comprised of five Brazilian and five German researchers has developed the program for this event. The Conference Chairs of this years‘ symposium are Maria Carolina Quecine Verdi, University of São Paulo and Susanne Zibek, Fraunhofer Institute for Interfacial Engineering and Biotechnology IGB, Stuttgart.

The symposium brings together 60 outstanding early-career Brazilian and German researchers from various universities, research institutions, and industry to introduce their areas of research and technical work, thus enabling an interdisciplinary transfer of knowledge and methods. Researchers working in different fields of sciences and engineering build cross-disciplinary networks and take the opportunity to work on future international collaborations.

The Alexander von Humboldt Foundation supports collaboration between German and Brazilian participants with its dedicated follow-up program CONNECT which grants residence allowances for working visits in the partner country for up to 30 days.

The Brazilian-German Frontiers of Science and Technology (BRAGFOST) symposia are a series of interdisciplinary conferences co-organized by the Brazilian Federal Agency for Support and Evaluation of Graduate Education (CAPES) and the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation. Funding on the German side is provided by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research.

Participation is by invitation only.
