About the Symposium

The UK-German Frontiers of Humanities Symposia (UKGFOH) are a series of interdisciplinary conferences co-organized by the British Academy and the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation. Funding on the German side is provided by the Federal Ministry of Research, Technology and Space.

This year’s UKGFOH Symposium is dedicated to the theme Truth, Justice and Peace. The conference will draw on the broad range of disciplines and expertise present to explore the way that scholars and communities conceptualise and implement truth, justice and peace, how transitional justice and peace processes inform and are informed by local knowledge, traditions, interests and values, and how senses and histories of identity may be implicated in the pursuit of truth, justice and peace.

The symposium brings together 30 outstanding young researchers of various disciplines in the humanities from both countries. They exchange ideas across disciplinary and methodological boundaries, build cross-disciplinary networks, and take the opportunity to work on future international collaborations. An organizing committee comprised of one researcher from each country developed the program for this conference.

The Alexander von Humboldt Foundation supports collaboration between the UKGFOH participants with its dedicated follow-up program CONNECT which grants residence allowances for working visits in the partner country for up to 30 days.

Participation is by invitation only.
